The British Chamber of Commerce, in association with the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Zambia State Insurance Company, will be hosting an event on Alternative Finance.
This month we are privileged to welcome Prof. Raghavendra Rau, the Sir Evelyn de Rothschild Professor of Finance at Cambridge Judge Business School in the UK and Head of the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance. Alternative finance includes financial channels and instruments that emerge outside of the traditional financial system (i.e. regulated banks and capital markets). Examples of alternative channels are online ‘marketplaces’ such as equity- and reward-based crowdfunding, peer-to-peer consumer/business lending, and third-party payment platforms. Alternative instruments include SME mini-bonds, private placements and other ‘shadow banking’ mechanisms, social impact bonds and community shares used by non-profit enterprises, and alternative currencies such as Bitcoin.
Discussants will be Charles Carey, MD of Cavmont Capital Holdings and Nasir Ali, MD of Pricewaterhouse Coopers Zambia. Chibamba Lopa of Grofin will moderate.”
